When most people think of carpets, broadloom carpets, which are fitted from wall to wall, spring to mind. However, carpet tiles are growing in popularity, particularly in commercial settings.
Find out what the advantages of using carpet tiles, which are typically sold in squares measuring 50cm by 50cm, over broadloom carpets are by reading on.
Quick installation
One of the main reasons why carpet tiles are favourable in commercial buildings is they are quick and easy to install.
Firstly, as large rolls of carpet are not required, they can be stored and transported far more easily.
What’s more, laying them in place is not difficult as they easily fit together. For oddly-shaped areas, only the carpet tile needs to be cut to fit the space, instead of an entire side of the carpet roll, which is significantly simpler and more precise.
Less waste = cheaper
Not all rooms are perfectly square, which means that there is typically lots of waste when installing a broadloom carpet. However, this is not the case with carpet tiles, as businesses only need to buy the amount they require, with cut-offs potentially being used to fill in difficult areas.
Therefore, they can save a lot of money by only having to pay for the amount of carpet they need. Any spare tiles can always be stored away in a cupboard in case they can come in handy to replace a patch of floor later on down the line.
Removable
Indeed, as carpet tiles can be removed individually, this means if there are any unsightly stains that won’t come out or damage is made to the carpet, the tile can be lifted and replaced with a fresh one, instead of having to change the entire floor.
In a commercial space where the floorplan can be extremely sizable, this can save a substantial amount of money.
What’s more, if access is required to the underfloor cables, one tile can be removed to allow technicians to reach this space without having to lift the entire flooring. This is far more convenient, economical and time-efficient, causing as little disruption to commercial life as possible.
Easy to maintain
Another advantage of carpet tiles in commercial settings is they are very easy to maintain.
They tend to have a low pile, which means they do not gather as much dust and dirt as household carpets. Therefore, they only need vacuuming a couple times a week and a thorough clean every two years or so.
As they are designed to be used in high traffic areas, they are durable and long-lasting, so they do not need replacing regularly. If a few do become damaged, they can individually be swapped for newer tiles without having to change the whole floor.
Flexibility in interior design
Unlike broadloom carpets, which have the same colour or pattern throughout the entire floor, with carpet tiles you can be more flexible with the design.
For instance, you could alternate different tiles to create a pattern, or have a few in a brighter colour to create a feature area.
As well as square tiles, hexagonal ones are available, and these are often chosen in two contrasting colours to create an interesting floor pattern.
